Substitution of Compulsory Credits Policy

Policy Number: 7-2 #5

Approved By: Board

Approval Date: May 14, 2018

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to describe how a student may pursue having compulsory credits substituted.

Scope:
This policy applies to all online students of Nimbus Christian Education.

Policy:
In rare circumstances, substitution of compulsory courses is required for a student to meet graduation requirements, promote and enhance student learning, or to respond to special needs and interests.

According to OS K-12 Section 6.2, “...Principal’s may substitute up to three compulsory credits with courses from other subject areas specified in the list of compulsory credit requirements (including Groups 1, 2, and 3) outlined in section 6.1.1.”

Nimbus Christian Education, being an online school, often accepts students from a spectrum of educational systems (such as the Home Schooling system) into our program. These students are the most likely recipients of substituted credits with the most common credit being the compulsory French credit. Additionally, substitutions are made for these students in some circumstances due to scheduling limitations.

Process for the substitution of compulsory credits:

  1. Substitutions will only be considered in the grade 12 year for students.
  2. Substitutions are made at the discretion of the Principal in consultation with the parents and the student.

Completion of the Substitution of Compulsory Credits Permission Form is required and this form is retained in the student’s OSR.
